Good DIY remodling/ home decorating books ?

Hello everyone. I’m in the process of buying a townhome. It’s pretty cozy (aka, small ), not tiny, but good for a single gal :0). I’ve never really had my own space so now I am not going to know what to do with all these extra rooms!!! LOL. After the closing cost and down payments, i will literally have 0 dollars in my bank account until my next pay period. However, I would like some recommendations on good home decoration books. I’ve been watch HGTV every day for ideas! But i forget them come morning! I also dont wanna purchase ANY ol’ book. I’m young (20s) and i consider myself very contemporary and modern, so i don;t want to purchase an out of date book. any recommendations? something with lots of pictures and explicit directions!

Another thing you can do is to keep a pad and pencil close to where you sit to watch HGTV. When they come up with something you like, jot the idea down, make a quick sketch, etc. Go onto their website and check the program out online. You’ll see that you get lots of ideas there.

But by far, the best way for me to remember ideas, etc. is this (mind you, I’m into ReDesign to make my living so you may not find this appropriate). I’m subscribed to a numberof decorating magazines, my favorite by far being Style at Home (their Website is great, by the way). Anyhow, I bought a number of 3-ring binders at the store and labelled each one: bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, home office, family room, playroom, study, furniture, lighting, etc. I’m sure you get the idea. Inside each one is a bunch of plastic protective sleeves. Inside the sleeves are plain white cardboard. When I see something I like in a decorating magazine, or something that could please one of my clients, I don’t trust my memory to remind which magazine I saw it in (since I keep all my magazines for a period of 2 years). Instead, I carefully tear out the page of the magazine and then trim the page to only show what it is I like. I tape this to a piece of cardboard and slip the cardboard in a protective sleeve in the appropriate binder. Of course, you don’t have to go out and subscribe to magazines, but you can always buy one or two magazines that you like in particular and do the same thing.

As for directions on how to do stuff, the best way is to figure out what it is you want to do and then research it on the internet. For example, suppose you want to paint your living room wall with a venetian plaster paint effect. Log onto google and do a search – don’t just do a web search, but do a google video and image search too.. Look at all the info I found:
